McDonald's filed a lawsuit against MacDonald's Family Restaurant, located in Grand Cayman. McDonald's lost the case, and in addition, was banned from ever opening a McDonald's location on Grand Cayman. This ruling still stands today.

Don't get me started.. I worked in a library for over 20 years indexing all the texts and books in an easy to find set of search cards..... I thought it would be fun to setup a site instead.... It got shut... :(

Not quite the same but all Burger Kings in Australia are called Hungry Jacks because some fella had a "Burger King" takeaway before they branched out over there, and point blank refused to sell the rights for any amount of money. On one hand you have to think fair play to him for sticking to his principles, on the other you have to think his whole family are counting down the days until he dies. :pac:

Of course Hungry Jacks is so big over there as a brand now they probably wouldn't (and have rejected) adopting the BK brand name if the opportunity were to arise.

    How about Macdonald's ?

I believe it would depend on a few different situations. If you simply opened a place called "MacDonald's" and ripped off the style of a real McDonalds and served similar foods, they'd most likely win, if they took out a lawsuit. If you opened "MacDonald's Burger Place" and the exterior and interior was clearly not a rip off of McDonalds, then I couldn't see them beating you in a lawsuit.

There was a kebab shop in North London a few years back. large red & yellow sign with a large yellow "M" imitating the McDonald's logo & style, called McDoner's. :D

Signs were removed & replaced after a few months but I'm not sure if there was legal moves by McD's

Seems that someone got a picture :pac:

Or you could do the opposite and call your place whatever you like but have some Ronald McDonalds endorse it! :D

I like the idea of consolidating a few of the big fast food outlets into one great big global conglomerate.

With that in mind I hereby present to you: SuperBurgerFriedDonaldsHut.

I seem to remember McD's one going after a family run chipper in Glasgow, but backed down when it was pointed out that the chipper had been running for many years before McD' arrived in the UK.

I love places that are 'influenced' by popular names like:

Chicken Hut - Saw this near a hotel in Laois...or was it Pizza Shack!?
King Burger - Was on O'Connell Street in the '90s.
    Texas Fried Chicken in Crumlin.
