Using a person's regional dialect when speaking online...

When I'm talking with someone from Britain, I'd often add British words like "mate" or "cheers" or "git", "thick".

If I'm talking to some American I'd often say "dude" or "man" or more likely to say "wow" or "sucks", "idiot" or something like that.

I never really thought about it before, just change my language to theirs.

But once I started to think about it... is it stupid to be doing this? I mean, they know I'm Irish... so are they going to think this is how I normally speak? And what's the point in it anyway? Hopefully people will understand what I mean.

    It's not stupid.

    But it is immoral.

This habit of yours is a sign of a mental perversion. To undermine the sanctity of the internet by pretending to be someone you're not?

    Shame on you OP. Shame.

I talk to my cousin (American) a lot on viber. I'm from Offaly so am an outrageous muck savage. I love when he writes back "hape" or "rake" or "onrale".

Do you adopt their accent too?? Just so they'll understand you like

It's a bit weird to do it on purpose, but it can happen on a small level naturally just by being around different people, it can sink in. That's why I'm never going to Donegal
