Lost the only key I have for a cheap run around 99 VW Polo.

Can I just try source an ignition barrel and key from a scrappers or somewhere and just swap em over?

There's no central locking or remote.

It will have an imobolizer so barrel replacement won't start the car

Yep, you need to pull a SKC code from the depths of the ECU/immo box and then match the replacement key to the immobiliser. It's seperate to the ignition barrel. A locksmith should do it for around 50 quid if you fit the ignition barrel and door lock yourself.

Think they came in around 97/98.
