It's a hard one to call, I haven't been in a mart lately to comment on current trade, but if you're selling in spring you could get anything from €80 to €200.
A bad spring could see prices drop like a stone, while if lots of grass & early growth you could get lots.
Selling this time of year use to be bad, as lads fearful of what's to come.

In lamb ewes can be hard enough to sell as lads will wait and buy ewes with lambs at foot and know exactly what there getting, young in lamb ewes usually make less than hoggets would have the previous autumn , but no two years the same, probably 140 at most, are you buying or selling

Saw an ad requesting €225 a head for in lamb ewes. Think I'll pass on them.

I seen hoggets making that much a month ago. €225 would be good value for a young sheep carrying two lambs.

Thanks for ye replays folks. Jeez that's some money for in-lamb ewes. If I was going to buy I wouldn't be spending that much on a ewe.

On a lighter side. I asked a sheep farmer today how many ewes 1 could keep to the hectare. He replyed "you can stock them at what ever number to hectare you like" but they'll die back to a rate that they are happy with :D..

I suppose it's up to each farmer to decide how much they want to spend on a ewe. Personally, I wouldn't either. I think anything between €120 to €150 is enough, depending on the ewe. Some might pay more, but to me I'd prefer to cover myself. There's a difference between scanning rates and weaned rates. Need to leave something in it for the other guy.

Brother is selling 4 mile full mouthed ewes, not scanned but with Ram since October, they're fresh sheep. What would they be worth?
