You're probably seeing threads like these now but which of the following 2 would you choose?

Dell Inspiron 3000 series, i3 processor
Toshiba L50-B-1NM Ci3 Processo r

The Dell is for sale for 380 and comes with a smaller (500gb) hard drive but with Windows 8.1.

The Toshiba is 384, comes with a 1tb hard drive and windows 8.

This is for my son and will most likely be used for browsing, youtube, minecraft, Sims 4.

Is there any other alternatives to these at the same price?

No difference between Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. If that machine has 8 on it, you can simply update to 8.1 for free through Microsoft. (It will do this automatically anyway...).
