Cost of replacing Fuel Pressure Pump - 2008 Ford Mondeo (diesel)

    Hi guys,
just looking for general advice or experience here please. We have a 2008 Ford Mondeo , diesel - dropping speed, no 'ooomph' when trying to overtake or when pushing the accelerator hard.

Took it to our local garage who confirmed the problem - he is going to try and replace the fuel filter first to see if that rectifies the issue.
If not, he said we could be looking at replacing the fuel pressure pump - he couldn't give a ballpark figure for this.

Would anyone have an idea of what this may cost? Sounds ominous!
New baby due in 5 weeks, mortgage and Christmas, could do with keeping the finance list as small as possible :(

Any opinions / experience appreciated, thanks!

"Confirmed the problem" but still playing trial and error games?

It can often be some kind of vacuum leak when there's no power, like a turbo pressure sensor hose popped off.

Thanks Pov06 - might run that past him and see what he says. He rang the main dealership to get clarification on the issue / error message and thats what they recommended (fuel filter change > then onto pressure pump replacement). Will give him a call and see about pos vacuum leak, sensor hose being off..

Was the check engine light on when you brought it in?

No - no warning light or anything showing up on the dash. Garage mechanic took it for a 'hard spin' and got some error message up, rang local dealership with that. Its been intermittent for maybe 3 weeks on and off, but definitely more apparent recently when going uphill, trying to overtake etc.

Any idea (if it is fuel pressure pump) , what they cost?

Replacing the fuel filter usually sorts them.

Update - fuel filter replaced and car is back in flying form again. Was extremely dirty and clogged, car running smooth once more. Not sure of garage bill as yet (calling in for bill this evening) but the actual fliter part to replace is prices roughly at 19 - 20euros. Phew! Thanks to all for info on here - diamond.
