Planning permission for mobile home

I'll be soon applying for planning permission to build a 2600sqft house behind an old cottage we recently purchased in Co Meath.

Due to the cottage been in a poor state and requiring the guts of 8k to get it livable we figured it would be better to purchased a mobile home.
We only plan to be in it for 12-18 months from January.

Also, we may be able to sell it on once the new house is built.
Pumping 8k into the cottage seems like a waste to us seen as it will be knocked anyway when the new house is built.

Would we require planning permission to put a 37x12 mobile home on site for the duration of the house build?

Mobiles are only allowed to be stored on residential lands for a certain amount if time. And then to use it as habitable accommodation would be a breech of planning regs as far as I can see.

My advice would be to talk to the local area planner and ask if a temporary permission could be applied for while the works are ongoing.

Or talk to your planning consultant. Some structures may be exempt during the maintenance or upkeep of a dwelling.

Indeed. Would it not be a "welfare" unit for the duration. ...seeing as these things are a requirement these days. ...

Mind you, would it be cheaper to rent somewhere locally than a mobile ?

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Done our sums and renting would be more expensive. Even if we got somewhere for €600 a month that's still €10,800 over 18 months.
A quick search of daft shows that there is nothing around area for less than €850 a month currently.

We could recoup none of this either, at least with mobile home bought for 5k we may get 2k back for it.
