    hiya,

we are starting a house build in dublin at present.

we are trying to make it as airtight as possible and as part of this power/water/gas etc. are all being piped in through the foundation.

we would also like to do the same for our upc service and they have agreed to put a service point on the boundary wall adjacent to other meters.

we are starting ground works soon and my question is what type of cable would you guys suggest for burying underground and would you bury this directly or use a conduit of some kind?

    thanks for your help,

    slip

    Don't ever.
Put a pipe. Then fibre can be added or cables changed.

    any particular type/diameter pipe?.

i wonder if water/condensation could collect in the pipe over time and if standard coax cables could withstand this?

also, ducted power will follow the same path (from meter to utility room).

would there be problems with interference or could this be mitigated?

    thanks for your help,

No, you use water proof cables. they are less flexible and have a harder outer. Ordinary coax will rot.

Anything between waste pipe and sewer pipe size. There are special duct pipes such that the coax or other cables do not stick to the plastic of the duct.

Any underground power ought to have an overall steel wire screen/armour that can be earthed (at one end only).

Assume the duct will manage to fill with water! Even if sealed!

So you use cables that COULD be buried, but always put in a duct so extra cables can be added (you leave a nylon cord and pull in a new one with a new cable.) or damaged cables replaced.

Put a couple of screened Cat5e cables too. Earth only one end. Phone or ADSL or VDSL (normally on CAT 3) or remote gate controls / camera etc can use these. They are cheap. If there is a duct, UPC will cheerfully put their own coax to their indoor box.
