Niman, this depends on the make and model, and obviously what the machine 'died' from. There is a company in Cork that pay a fixed figure of €20 each for them but you may need to have 5/6 machines in a bundle before they will collect.
If its one of the 'own brand' models from Harvey Norman,Power City etc that cost €199 new its worth SFA now, count yourself lucky that the recycling centre will take it for free.:D
Basically, they are a throw away item.

I was only wondering as I have a Candy that recently died on me, it still does a lot of what its meant to but seems to stall and do nothing mid-wash.

I was going to give it away for free on one of the advert sites, as it might be able to be fixed by someone who knows what they are at, then I wondered what would someone get in scrap value if they came and got it off me.

Thanks for the replies. To be honest I'd be happy to see it gone for nothing.

Get the model number and Google it and you will be suprised that it might be very easy to fix

Last time I looked scrap metal was roughly €100 a tonne, it could easily cost you more to take it to a scrap metal merchant than you'll get for it.
Better to bulk it up with other scrap metal.

washing machines are part of the weee scheme and scrap metal dealers are not allowed to buy them they must be recycled in special centers for electronics.
