I've been looking at a 2003 ford transist connect on Gumtree for £1395, wee van looks tidy and has a side door which I need. Nice wee set of alloys as well but earlier today was on phone to seller and asked him does it have any probs. He told me that airflow meter needs replacing as it can cut out or hard to start.

I'm sitting here wondering if I should take a chance on her seeing as its reasonably priced with 100 or more knocked of it.

Can anyone tell what these vans are like, are they money bins or decent enough. Are they rebound for giving engine problems etc.. Or other issues?

Run a mile from any vehicle advertised on gumtree. Too many scammers frequenting that site. Try Adverts.

To say there fond of diesel would be a huge under statement. There probably the hardest on diesel of all vans that size. Not really sure about issues or reliability I don't there particularly bad.

They are usually good enough vans but that one youre looking at is nearly twelve years old so who knows what sort of a life it had upto now.
The hard starting issue is hardly a maf sensor ive never seen one to cause that problem most likely that is a fuel pump problem but thats only a guess.

I've a mate who's driving one at moment and he says its not bad on juice. In saying that he uses green in her thou he's always used green in all vans and says its decent enough on juice.

I had problems with sensor in Audi car and mines cut out and it was air flow meter. Thou wondering if its same in this van.

Much is a fuel pump to get fixed?,

What's the difference, someone can scam on adverts as well can they not

Well if you consider around 30 mpg good on juice. In the place I work the connect would have been the hardest on diesel by a long way comparing it to the likes of caddys. I suppose it's not going to be huge deal if your not going to be a huge amount of driving.

leave it where it is unless you can get a diagnostic read from it.there are to many costly faults it could be.
if it was my van for sale with a "small" problem i would fix it before sale to up the price mainly.
as said above keep away from gumtree, its full of dodgy dealers and scams

Just seen a nice 2004 one on adverts.ie thou they are looking 3k for it. Well over priced IMO and its even got 177k miles on her, no ply lined either thou it looks very clean inside. IMO its overpriced by 1k

How do I get a diagnostic read, is it expensive and does it take long?

Maybe there was something wrong with the one we had in work there was 200k miles on it but ive heard others say they're bad enough on diesel surly they would have tweaked the engine between 2003 and 2008 though there hardly the exact same.

I'd take an 03 connect any day over the same age caddy tbh.

It was essentially a 93 model Ibiza to be fair.
