Interested to see how they'll rap it up considering the natural Red John end point is done and dusted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,559 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Right, since I know it's the final season(unless another network picks it up) and I've lasted this long, I may as well finish it out.
Jane/Lisbon wedding? Or at least them finishing out the series together.

Or Red John isn't actually dead, kills Lisbon and Jane seeks revenge. Just a little bit darker than the Jane/Lisbon happy ending. :)

I want to see a red smiley face on a wall at the end of the first new episode.

Yeah, the first half of the last season was tremendous and then it just lost every bit of steam it had once they wrapped the Red John stuff. So I'd have no problem at all with a red smiley face.

    Malcolm McDowell
    to return from the dead
with the help of his Visualize Self-Realization Center church and convince Jane he really is a psychic.

Looks like the first new episode came out early.

Cool I had just got round to finishing season 6 yesterday as well.

I had given up keeping up with it week to week after they caught Red John.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Pretty standard case of the week (with added *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge* interactions between Lisbon and Jane). At the end,
it needed a hook to set up the season, but that didn't come, unfortunately.

Oh wow, what a disappointment. I would have thought the whole "bad policeman list" would have been enough to keep things going with the potential new boss to contend with, looks like they are just going to play things out.

I'm a big fan, but I have nothing to say after the season premiere. Nada.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

Very bland first episode with no real hook for the season. Looks like it'll ride into the sunset on a wave of mediocrity after peaking midway through last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Episode 2 really wasn't any better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Better than the first to be fair. Are they going to limp to the end with standalone episodes?

They had a chance to make an arc with this episode I felt and that's what I thought they were heading for until they didn't.

Are these episodes on an american channel for now.

EDIT: I now know they are on CBS for the moment.

Only watched the first so far and I have to wonder why they're bringing the rookie in now. Bringing her in last season would've made more sense since they were basically doing the soft reboot and would be a way to introduce new viewers. Unless she's just the eye candy that replaces Grace. :)

Another standalone episode but at least Morena Baccarin returned :D

    great episode

    hate its ending

For such a light show, that was pretty heavy.

Hated the ending too. Even after all that, Jane is all me-me-me.

Decent acting from Tim Kang too - he's normally pretty wooden.

    considering the recent character development
    between them two
over the last few weeks , i can see how the clues were left

They walk into a diner where there could be potential criminals with guns(nearly everyone in the US has one anyway) without protective jackets?

I think that was the only episode where I see Cho being emotional.

    Pretty tear jerking episode!

After last week I had high hopes for a strong finish. Episodes 10 and 11 were incredibly strong. Episode 12 was very good, but Episode 13 was the most limp series finale I have seen for a long time. Lazy, dull and by-the-numbers. They even had a 'stay tune for scenes from our next episode' card at the end. Lazy lazy lazy....

    Lazy.

maybe a bit lazy, have to say , i liked it , i was wondering wdf thought when they said stay tune for scenes from our next episodes

saying that though , when shows end to different people give out
take himym - i know its miles apart from this but people hated the ending (which i loved btw)
I though although maybe a bit by the book , i thought it was great . I would have liken to see more of vanpelt and rigsby but still like it

Also for me with the killer using the name lazarus and his obsession with psychics, I was expecting some sort of Red John tie in for the last ever episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭bpb101

looks like they copped on .i check out the video on cbs.com and went to the end of the episode and that bit saying stay tuned has the audio muted

I dont know what ye were talking about with the ending, "stay tuned"?, cause I didnt hear anything on CBS? .....so that answers it.

A bit of an anticlimax at the end I thought especially with the killer coming back, far too easy. But I'll miss the show though all the same.

when it was broadcasted it said like it said every week

"stay tuned for scenes from our next episode " This was muted when it went onto cbs.com

Very paint by numbers finale alright. Everything after the Red John arc is essentially an optional epilogue. I did quite enjoy the tone of the second half though.

At least they addressed how Jane started working for the FBI

    ??????
    we new that years ago?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,559 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yeah but he started working for them after being basically blackmailed into helping them, but as it went on it was like that never happened, especially with the way Jane talked about leaving. But since they brought it up (the napkin) meant they at least referenced it

I actually thought that was done deliberately...

"stay tuned for scenes from our next episode "...followed by silence and black screen....then credits roll.

I laughed when i saw it and thought it was a nice touch.

Damn I didn't know that was the finale until I came on here, I heard the 'stay tuned' and never thought anything of it, I enjoyed the darker tone to this season and jane solving cases based more on his intelligence rather than bad set ups. I was actually starting to think they might kill van pelt/ rigsby or theresa for an arc for the last episodes as it had gone that bit darker, disappointed now its over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭bpb101

I know most people think the show is over. But it aint gone yet. It is still holding strong in ratings. There is a real chance that they might move it to another network. They just have to cut down costs if they did. The main one is cut simions pay cheque.
It pulled in good viewers on a Sunday night when there really I sent anything else on.
If they did and hopefully they do. Simon may very well take a cut as he might as well earn something than do nothing. 13 episode would give him a nice income but wouldn't take up all of his time

Nice and happy ending, it should really have finished with the Red John storyline, maybe even with Patrick dying as well, but it's ended fine and they left it wide open for a restart if it's needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Could have been a good "full circle" situation if the body in Lazarus' back room was Red John. The last 3 episodes would need to have been largely rewritten, but it would have bookended the 7 series nicely.

I was thinking it could have been a bit of an alter to Red John and the blood was needed to summon his spirit or something like that, then when they caught him Patrick decides that he'll never be rid of Red John so he has to go into hiding or leave quietly or something.

Disagree, thought the season ended very well -- episodes 11-13 were gold IMO, some of the strongest Mentalist stuff in a while.
Felt the ending was spot on as Robert McKee says in Story if you want the character to have a happy ending he has to work for it. I think Jane's character has more than worked for it. While I agree that conclusion of the Red John arc was a natural end for the series I though the soft reboot introduced some very good characters who were well cast had good chemistry with the leads and helped the series over the line in fine form. I'm sorry to see it go but glad it did not outstay its welcome too long. One of my favorite TV series - it wasn't hard edged or gritty but was tightly written and superbly acted. The cast had great chemistry between them which is essential in any drama. But what kept me coming back was Simon Baker and his effortless performance as Jane. Ostensibly a charming, bright and breezy type but one of the most haunted, manipulative and dark characters I've seen in a more or less light procedural show.
I also enjoyed the outing of psychics on the show and its atheist aspects.
Shout outs also have to go to Robin Tunney as Lisbon and Tim Kang as poker faced Kimball Cho. Two great actors who added to the series immensely. and thanks to Bruno Heller for seven very enjoyable seasons. I think the Mentalist will be remembered. I'm sure it'll live on in syndication heaven for a while.

I just watched the ending on RTE One HD just now and I am very glad that it was a happy ending at the end of it all.

It is heartwarming to know at the very last episode that both Jane & Lisbon
are having a kid and becoming very happy parents together.

Bruno Heller is an absolute genius for writing this show. I have enjoyed all of the characters throughout the entire show immensely. They are done by actors who are simply superb. It is one of the best TV series ever written that I have seen in a long time. It is well worth it for people who haven't seen it over the years to watch it on DVD or Blu-ray in the future.
