Sick Pay and Pension

I have received a non workrelated injury which has rendered me unfit for work. I am about to run out of employer paid sick leave and will be depending on social welfare sickness benefit from now on. I will be out of work for another six months at least, and will find the going very tough financially..... As I am only 2 years from state retirement age and as I am a member of my employers pension scheme, I am considering taking early retirement.
In that event, would social welfare allow me continue to claim sickness benefit until such time as i was deemed fit for work. I would then have to seek JSB.

I think some pensions allow for early retirement fund access when illness is a factor. ..

Best thing to do is contact the number at the bottom of this page

    http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/345_Illness-Benefit.aspx

I've a feeling you can get it as well as your pension but best to find out directly. Also, as I'm sure you're aware anyway, it is taxable and remains so even if you're on the pension.
