Cow unable to cud. Third calf SIM. Seems to be something lodged in her lower throat. Vet gave her muscle relaxing injection on two occasions. Losing condition drastically. 3 week old CH calf suckling. Any suggestions on how to treat this?

ps fond of meal but unable to swallow. Fine up until she calved. She was eating hay up to this point. She got two magnesium bullets after calving. Thanks

You could make up gruel and she may be able to swallow that if she can drink. What does your vet think?

How difficult/expensive would an operation to remove the blockage be greysides? If she needed a section there wouldn't be much hesitation about doing it.

Treatment will depend on the best guess at the cause, which his vet is best placed to know.
Costs............ not sure, it's not standardised and will probably depend on the individual circumstances of the case.

    Thanks Greysides

Must contact vet to see if its possible to operate,
excellent cow & calf would be annoying to see the cow dying.
