VRT on UK van import?

just want to get clear answer wondering if anyone recently done this?

I have 2 vans eyed up, VW Transporter, LWB 2011 reg'd decent low mileage/light use

One is a regular panel van with the 2 seat passenger bench
The other is the Kombi model which has the second row of seats behind

    My understanding is:
the regular panel van is a flat €200 VRT import
the Kombi is subject to the full mercy of the not-very-transparent OMSP-based VRT process

both are €333 per year to tax

    Am I correct?

    bump

anyone know the answer here pls?
must be lads here who have taken in VW campers or a "surf/day" van and know the craic
is it down to the description on the V5 (genuine Kombi=youre screwed, more than 3 seats noted=youre screwed) or are you screwed anyway cos it will be visually inspected at NCT/DOE

    thanks

Not 100% but if the combi is reg'd as a commercial crew cab in the uk you may get away with it at 13.5% vrt.
Unlikely though as it is sold as a normal car here .

COMMERCIALS ARE 200 EUROS UP TO 3500 KGS

Doesn't it need x amount of load space behind the seats and a bulkhead to be classed as a commercial ?(crewcab) .
Do have a need for a crewcab for work ? (Might make it easier to persuade em)

thanks for all the replies so far

from what I've learned since it's all down to the V5 and what you present at the NCTS inspection (in theory at least as I haven't had a go at it yet)

it seems ridiculous to me (what are you supposed to be if you are operating a crew??) a factory kombi DOES attract the full mercy of the VRT and will cost you stunning money on the VRT, check out VW Ireland's .pdf pricelist for new Transporter's (http://ext.volkswagen.ie/commercial/brochures/) and as you can see it there in the numbers, €200 flat v's 13.5% of their OMSP (shudder)

I also found a large thread here although not for my Kombi situation touches on it:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056286278

last year I took in a VW Touran for mrs.....so you'd think something like a Touran is simple enough, in out job done....just happened it was one of those run-out models they do from time to time, called a "Touran Match" on the V5....cue excuse from the VRT to try take me for a ride, I did the new NCT office mullarkey to be faced with "mmmm. its not on the computer. I'll have to send this to "Rosslare" even though I tried to explain to them the facts and even found the bloody webpage with the original VW brochure .pdf for the car explaining that it was the SE model with a nicer radio etc.....3 weeks later I get a call telling me that the VRT due is 2.5x times what it's supposed to be (working off market value and what they have on the VRT calculator online for that same model in the list an SE) I actually laughed...however it wasn't funny, seriously I had to land out that 2.5x money to get the plates (would have been interesting if I'd not had the cash to do that) and fight for a refund, I had to write up a justification which took a couple of days effort and the help of some unexpected kindness from a VW Ireland guy who wrote up a letter for me about the valuation....upshot was that I was left out of pocket for THREE MONTHS and when the admission and refund finally came to me it was for exactly the amount I had pleaded to them in the first place!! and I was left thinking, it took me a lot of effort and hard work to get justice and I know a fair bit about cars, if this had been an ordinary Joe he'd have been in deep ****.

SO you can see why I'm very nervous about it, in my experience the current VRT system is a major black hole compared even to what it used to be, designed to screw you

Will post up what happened in the end when I decide what to do

all commercials are charged a vrt at 13.3% and it has been that way for a while.
the 200e vrt is long gone
there is a vrt calc on revenue.ie

Nope, that's wrong as is the VRT calculator for vans.

It's to do with its N1 classification and the number of seats.

ok, so did you bring in a crewcab type panel van? e.g. a VW Transporter Kombi or Merc Vito Dualiner
see this advert, this is what I'm after in principle:
    http://www.usedcarsni.com/2011-Volkswagen-Transporter-180-bhp-5-Seats-Bodykit-135941567

2/3 seats up front with a second (removable) row of 3 behind

    ?

I think its stupid myself because a van is a van but I've been told so far that having one of these will hammer me on VRT

what did u take in yourself?

If a van is imported - and €200 paid in vrt for commercial use only, can they turn around and re-sell it whenever they want or they have to keep it for a certain duration?

Once VRT is paid and no exemptions claimed you can do what you like.
