    Hi there,

I have my S3 over two years. Never had any problems until last month or so when battery life reduced greatly.

This evening the battery died so I plugged it in to a charger and turned it back on. However, it wouldn't go past the Samsung logo. I took out the battery several times but the same thing kept happening. It simply wont boot past the logo.

After some research online I selected ODIN mode by pressing the power, home and volume-down key. From the intro screen I pressed the volume-up key as directed but have been frozen on another screen for hours which says...
    ODIN MODE
    PRODUCT NAME: GT-19300
    CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
    CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
    SYSTEM STATUS: Official

There's also a large picture of the android robot logo with "Downloading...Do not turn off target !!" written underneath.

Absolutely nothing is happening though. I've connected the phone to my laptop via USB and it is not recognised.

I would greatly appreciate any help or advice.
    Thank you.

EDIT: I've since turned off the phone and tried everything again but no change. Can't get past logo screen and then can't do anything in ODIN

Mine did exactly the same at 23 months old.
Would go into the different modes add you describe but I couldn't go any further. There were options to flash new software from SD card etc but I wouldn't have a clue. Dropped it into local repair guy. He loaded new software into it and it was 100 percent.

There are two modes you can put the phone into, download(what i think you're calling odin mode) and recovery.

Try booting to recovery with volume up, home and power. From there you could try wiping the cache to start. If that doesn't work you could try a factory reset. This will completely wipe the phone btw.

You could download the phones firmware from sammobile and do a fresh install through odin as well. Start with a reset though, and maybe consider a new battery as well.

Thank you both for your help. For some reason I cant go into recovery mode. (home, power, volume up). I think I'll have to get professional help and see. I know there's a Samsung shop in Dundrum Shopping Centre; think I'll try there first. I'd be devastated with a factory reset because I've so much on the phone I want to keep.

Thanks again for the help and advice. I really appreciate it.

I seem to remember the s3 being temperamental to go to recovery with the buttons. Like there is a trick to it or something.

Try this: "turn your Galaxy S3 off. Now, press and hold the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons until you see the Samsung screen. Release the Power button but continue to press Home and Volume Up until you are brought to the stock recovery mode"

Looks like you need the Samsung Kies Software and a Backup rom for an emergency flash.

Just an anecdote really but something very similar happened to me recently. I replaced the battery and then held the power button down (reset?) until it rebooted and it has worked since. Might be worth borrowing a battery from a friend to see if that works for you.

When you hold volume up and the home button, then power button...when you feel the phone vibrate take your hands off all buttons. That should get you into recovery mode.
