how do I go about making people aware of a car dealer that completely did me over and am sure has screwed others also. If I had this info I would have saved myself a whole lot of hassle and money.

Boards can be sued if something you post is damaging and untrue to another party

What county? I got screwed over by a pr**k in mayo.
I bought a car from him and the engine went 4 weeks after. He said I pay for the engine and he would fit it for free. When the job was done he told me call back for the bill in a few days. I called back every day and sometimes twice a day for over 4 weeks. When he finally gave me the bill it was over 2k.
I told him about our agreement and that I would only pay the price of the engine, he said no. After 6 months he came and took the car from my drive at 4am on a sat. Took the engine out and left me the car back without an engine.
Guards said go to the courts and they said go to the guards as its a criminal matter.
I ended up just buying an engine and getting it fitted.
Sorry about the long post, not really worthy of a new thread.

Don't bother, if you had read the threads on that subject here you'd probably not have bought a car from them in the first place.

Go on, admit it, did you read any of the horror stories on this forum about people who bought cars from cowboys traders?

    If yes, more fool you.
If no, what difference will it make adding your sob story to the pack?

what about sending a solicitors letter or go to small claims court?

Small claims court would be cheapest option and probably the one you have best chance of winning

A solicitor's letter is waste of money, it holds as much weight as a letter written by anyone else. Small claims court is an option but getting a judgement in your favour is the beginning of the process as people who knowingly sell dodgy motor's are well aware of.

Even if for example the car owner was at fault and was refusing to pay the bill, the dealer would still have no right to steal the car and rip the engine out of it. In my opinion that dealer has shot himself in the foot by carrying out that action and I would try my best to screw him on that.

I wish there was some way of outing bad dealers, as I have been looking at changing recently and spotted plenty of nice cars around the country, only to read on here ".. Naas Road, need I say more" or ".. didn't they change their name last year, due another change soon" etc.

Sent and ignored. It was 7 years ago but the same guy is still selling cars and still ripping people off.
If you asked anyone in castlebar who they thought the worst mechanic/car sales is most would say the same guy.

Sorry to hijack your thread op.
