Okay, so I just got a job ( after 2 months of not getting anything) but the job isn't great even though the company is fantastic. ( it is only a 2 month contract though)

However, this is where my conundrum comes in, I got called for an interview for tomorrow for a recruitment agency and another interview on Thursday for a company ( that I got called from by a recruitment agency) both interviews are fields I want to get into, but are a good bit travel wise from my current work so I wouldn't be able to travel there.

What should I do?? I am delighted to have money for Christmas, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and I should just maybe apply after Christmas instead??

    Thanks in advance

If it is just a 2 month contract then I think I'd be inclined to go for the other interviews, they might lead to a permanent job in the field you want. It's not like you'd be giving up a proper job x

Take the job, go to the interview and if you get the other one you have a nice dilemma

If it's only a 2 month contract, I'd be honest with the current employer and tell them that you have the chance for a full time role, and to plan a future for yourself.. Advise that you're willing to take the time without pay (as long as it's not a mission critical role you have). If they deny you the request for the interview on these terms, then would you want to work for a company like that anyway?

Recruitment agency interviews are ropey, they try to sell you to a company, and at the same time sell the company to you and make a profit off the deal. If you're happy with the 2 month contract stick with it, it may become something else. The recruitment agency will still be there when the contract ends

Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Experience with a good company and fulfilling your contract will make you more employable at the end of it. Plus gives you a chance to hear about any possible positions opening up.

Would definitely go for the company interview. With two months work you are entitled to 3.3 days holidays.

I'd meet the recruitment company out of hours. They usually can meet people very early in the morning.

    Good luck.

I would certainly go for the interview, weigh up what is listed below

    - it is in a field you want to get into (a huge thing to take into consideration)
    - you say your current job "isn't great"
    - its a 2 month gig, so while money is handy for Xmas, you could be out on your backside in January
    - the other job will most likely be filled by January so your opportunity may have passed
    - as mentioned by a Smcgiff the agency should be able to meet out of hours or a quick lunchtime chat

The bottom line, is your loyalty to yourself should come before a loyalty to a 2 month contract. Either way best of luck in whatever you decide to do
