Question re: recruitment agents

    Quick question if anyone knows the answer.

    I started a new job back in June. The standard 6 month probation period applied, and I'm led to believe there'll be no issue with me passing it come January.

    I got this role through a recruitment agent and I found her very good to work with. The thing is, for reasons I don't want to go into, this just isn't the right job for me and I want to look elsewhere sooner rather than later.

    If I wanted to use the same recruitment agent, is there an incentive for her not to find me a new job until I pass my probation period here first? I heard that sometimes they don't get their full fees/commission etc. unless the candidate they've gotten hired has passed their probation. But I don't know how true this is.

    Most likely the recruitment firm will have got the majority of the fee as the standard rebate charge to a company is along the lines of:

    0 – 4 weeks: 100% Refund
    4 – 8 weeks: 50% Refund
    8 – 12 weeks: 25% Refund

    Some companies will have clauses whereby any fee does not come valid until the employee completes his/her probation but they tend to be in the minority in my experience.

    However, the recruiter you dealt with may not be able to work with you as his/her company in the most instances will have an agreement to not "take" candidates from existing client companies. This is not always the case though IMHO should always be the case.
