Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - PC Master Race Edition

I jumped into a couple of multi-player matches, won two, lost two, and I have to say I enjoyed it. However, I noticed a problem with texture loading and this was causing a 'stutter' effect while playing.

A bit of rummaging around on the internet told me to turn off the two 'Caching' graphical features in the 'Advanced Options'. Lo and behold, the game now looks a lot better, and plays a lot better too.

Also, in Single Player, with all the settings on 'Extra' or 'High' the game looked terrible, but turning off the two 'Caching' options fixed this issue. The game looks extremely well on the highest settings.

Just thought I would share this with fellow PC users who might be experiencing the same problem.

Hoping to give this a good run later on tonight! How is everybody else finding the game?

It would be really difficult to make it worse than Ghosts. If the game even loads, that's already off to a good start :p

Haha! I was fortunate enough to skip Ghosts, so I remain in virgin territory when it comes to that game's performance. Can't wait to get stuck in later! :D

I find myself very conflicted about CoD on PC (since CoD:UO), every year since CoD:W@W I get tempted to take the gamble and have had mostly bad experiences - thankfully buying Polish and Russian cd keys was far cheaper for ghosts and BO2 (skipped mw2/mw3) - I'm actually annoyed that from the early impressions it seems to be a very good PC port as it brings back the internal battle of whether to take the gamble or not (even though I said "never again!" after ghosts)

I'll be waiting on an outrageously cheap cd key, 35ish the cheapest I could see so far.

TB loves it and he hates CoD games

That multiplayer gameplay looks dreadful, I'm getting a headache watching him jump up and down. Have only ever bought 3 CODs, and this will not change that stat

Haven't played WaW, black ops 1/2 MW3 and ghosts but this peaks my interest.
I love futuristic games and loved the jet back in Titanfall, i'm down for the fast jumping around side sweeping gameplay :)

OK, I think I'm gonna have to pull the plug on this, movement has always been lacking for me in CoD (I come from Quake and UT, the movement in those was phenomenal), but everything else in CoD multi-player games I thought was done really well.

    [EDIT]
Cheapest I've found online was €33 - anyone seen anything better than this?

Tempted but every half decent reviewer/streamer/youtuber i trust are complaining about inconsistent mouse acceleration issues to the point where most say avoid on PC until its addressed, but apart from that its getting nice reviews.

I'm tempted as well, but i know i'll play it for a week, and then realise that i don't like competitive fps.

It looks pretty good but I'm just aching for them to go back to grassroots WW2 or just a COD4-esque Call of Duty title. Jetpacks, Ion Cannons, Lasers....I'm sure it's a good game in its own right and it's getting great reviews, but it's just not my sort of Call of Duty game.

I'd love if they re-released COD4 with updated visuals and proper anti-cheating measures. That was hands down the best COD game online. I tried playing it on Steam recently and it still plays great but its rife with hackers.

How much disc space does this take up?

Steam downloading 36gb MP and 40gb CODAW?

36.5gb for the MP part, and 6.6gb for the SP. However, if you download the SP (thinking you can play that while the MP downloads), you can't play the SP. :P Stupid, I know. If you try to run the SP, it asks that you finish downloading the MP part.

They're not really two separate games. This is just a convenient fiction which reflects a pre-Steam oddity of some Quake 3 engine games using two separate executables, one for SP and one for MP to help save on resources.

Just chatting with mates about this earlier. All agreed COD4 as the best. It's somewhat nostalgic because it was the first Xbox 360 game we all got together, and lost months playing it.

But I thought it was the strongest in the series, gameplay was great, killstreaks not OP. Smoe guns were a bit broken but it was by far the best experience.

I was playing it up until pretty recently on alteriwnet, a community project that looked to maintain COD4 on private servers, with strong anti cheating. Unfortunately the project ended a year or two ago but there is people commited to bring it back, here is hoping.

Running like a dog for me, moved it to the SSD and still the same.

Think all PC Gamers secretly love that moment when a game doesnt run at high FPS especially if that moment is just before xmas :D

havent enjoyed a COD since COD4 or played one since BLOPS really. However, after watching totalbiscuit's review I decided to take a chance and buy this. Currently downloading, hopefully will be ready tonight :)

Hey guys, if you are having performance problems with COD: AW and if you use an AMD graphics card, you can download the latest beta driver from AMD. Having installed this the other day, I can say there is a significant improvement in performance.

Hopefully it will help some of you who are also having problems with the game.

Played COD since Finest Hour back in 2003....

I'm in agreement that COD4 was the best, followed closely by MW2 (would have been spectacular if it was given the post-launch support it needed but we all know how shaky things were behind the scenes during that period with West and Zampella). I thought the original Black Ops was a decent game in it's own right and the Zombies kept me hooked but there has been an obvious decline over the years which started with MW3. Since that they've just stumbled from year to year throwing out the same old rehashed crap.

COD is not a concept that suits PC. It's a console product and I'd argue that it's a last gen console product. It has no place in 2014 and that's what I associate it with. The series is dead to me.

I'd love to see EA give Respawn the project of bringing Medal of Honor back. They created it so they might as well have a shot at trying to raise it from the dead.

COD 4 was the first competitive game i ever really got into, the dedicated servers really helped as it weaned out the aimbots and trolls.

Their removal really hampered MW2 and subsequent games but i'm hoping AW will help that again once they're reintroduced.

I had a bit of a think about getting this COD game and came to the conclusion that until I see dedicated servers, I wont be going near

Surely its around the corner but its fair bad that they release the game without the dedicated servers but I dont think they care about PC gamers

It's not good enough. COD is supposedly the poster boy of the gaming industry and it's laughable that they have yet to invest in dedicated servers. They'd rather use what uTorrent or Napster used ffs....they promised dedicated servers with Ghosts and never delivered....until I actually see it, I'm not buying into their crap...

At this point in time, very few companies actually give a flying **** about PC....Ubisoft is a company that has all but totally forgotten it actually exists....
I can't understand the argument that PC'ers will just pirate it but if they actually paid attention to PC players we might actually give a damn about them....

Battlefield is a game I love. I would never dream of pirating it because I've built up an emotional connection with Dice. I say to these companies that if you acknowledge our existence, we'll promote your games. It's not like they have any other choice anyway....better to optimize a game and let it get pirated than port over a pitiful product and receive the wrath of a bazillion PC nerds.. :pac:

I'd have thought the entire point of the game was to be quicker to jump/crouch faster than the other guy - as well as spraying bullets into him :)

Are you specifically referring to the new COD not suiting PC ?...because your comment makes no sense to me.

COD became an established franchise because of the PC.
Call of Duty 1 and 2 were massive sellers on the PC and amazing games, and then came COD4.
It wasn't until MW2 when IW.net (and customisation and gimmiky things, OTT killstreaks ) and no dedicated servers that it started going downhill PC Wise...for me anyways.

I don't see how it's console product...or even a last gen console product at that, it caters to both PC and console.....however I would argue that the more dedicated PC Gamer spends his time with 'better' FPS' ...which the PC has access to.
The likes of ARMA,CS:GO , Battlefield 4 and numerous other titles make COD seem kind of kiddyish.

Wasn't Medal of Honor made originally by Dreamworks/Danger Close ? (MOH:AA was 2015 though...still my fave FPS for PC ever) .
There was a Medal of Honor game , 2 years back....Warfighter....it wasn't that bad actually....but it was out the same time that Black Ops 2 came out...and BF3 was at the height of it's popularity and releasing some great DLC's......so it never got the recognition it deserved.

No, I'm not saying COD never had decent games on PC - it had. What I'm referring to is how outdated a concept it is in 2014 when compared with what PC has or should be doing with regards to pushing boundaries with innovation etc.

COD1, 2, 3 and 4 were great games and worthy of PC but it's done very little since. You look at a game like Battlefield and see the leaps they've took over the last few years. When playing COD now you just get a sense that the developers aren't even trying anymore and I say that as a PC gamer....if I played solely on console I'd probably think it was the best thing since sliced bread because my expectations are lower.

I'm aware of Warfighter and I didn't like it. I think they should give it to Zampella and West over at Respawn.

Post MW2 CoD is the video-game equivalent of the fast and furious film franchise - it's designed to appeal to morons, a task which it does very well- I say this in the full knowledge that I've played almost every single one of them and drew some enjoyment from them (wonder what that says about me!)

The gameplay is the same old supersoldier rubbish - just with added mobility, toggling tactical grenade types is particularly unintuitive on PC, can't fathom why they don't just bind 1-9 number keys for the various gadgets / weapon types - I imagine it's an oversight form the fact the game is designed with an xbox one controller in mind

The single player story is contrived ****e - flew through it in a few hours and uninstalled - im confident I drew any enjoyment from it that I would have had I bought the full version
I found myself not hating / partially agreeing with the motives and actions of the Kevin Spacey character and not really seeing him as a real antagonist until the death-camp/experimentation lab parts in the latter level - I get the impression they realized people were not entirely convinced of him being "evil" and decided to paint a picture of an extremely cartoony supervillain in the latter sections of the game so there was no ambiguity

I was also frustrated that you couldn't kill the scientists who are carrying out biological weapons research "you killed a surrendering enemy" instafail is an absolute joke - morally they are far from innocents and they never had such an issue when you could shoot unarmed (nazi) scientists in the balls in prior CoD/MoH games
