Erbsenmehl Kuchen = Richard Wagner?

    Just in the middle of reading the second part of Herbert Rosendorfer's two-book trilogy "Briefe in die chinesische Vergangenheit', a brilliant book, sometimes you just have to go back a read page over again, for the pure joy of the descriptions, how about "Froschbeengte Wohnung"?
    It is also a bit of a cryptic puzzle, our Chinese hero, Kao-tai, frequently renders German words and names with a supposed Chinese blas, or re-translates them back through Chinese to German. He is going to Grüne Hügel to see a production of Parsifal, the work of 'Erbsenmehl Kuchen', which I guess refers to Richard Wagner, but for the life of me I can't see how he got to it?
    Any ideas, folks?

    To answer my own question: Pea flour cake is a traditional Beijing dish, Wan Dou Huang in Chinese, so Wagner = Wan-dou-huang in Kao-tai's accent.
