The old cinder track in westside is being replaced by what looks like a 6-lane tartan track. Still fenced off so will have to check length and surface when it opens.

Others might question the need for two tracks within such close proximity of each other. I just hope its not wrecked by vandals.

Can the Eamonn Ceannt pk track be used by anyone though?

It always seems to be locked and I've never seen anyone running on it. The cycle track seems to be in use but not the cinder track.

I think the cycle track was heavily vandalised a few years back and repaired, so I'm not surprised it is kept locked up.
    Dublin Striders train there afaik

Is there a track in Lanesboro in Longford that Catherina McKiernan used to train on? Not sure if that is just gravel though?

    Meath:

Is Gormanston 400m tartan now? It used to be a 440yds cinder track.

    Louth:

    Ardee 400m grass (irregular shape)

    Monaghan:

    Carrickmacross 400m cinder
    Monaghan 400m cinder (poor condition)

    Armagh:

    Banbridge 150m tartan

    Antrim:

    Jordanstown 60m tartan (indoors)

    Derry:

    Magherafelt 400m tartan
Believe there's a track in Derry (Templemore) also

    Donegal:

By the way, Tartan is a brand name which has come into common usage to describe a synthetic track.
Mondo tracks are generally recognised as the best surface now.
As far as I know the following are 400m Mondo:
    Athlone IT
    Morton Stadium, Santry
    Lifford AC, Co Donegal
    Waterford RSC
    Mary Peters Track, Belfast

    Any others?

Westside in Galway definitely looking close to completion. Unfortunately it's still in the same park where the local "kids" burned down their own playground a few years ago. We'll see how long it lasts.

Is that Lough Ree AC's track? - have a vague memory of being at it and it was a tartan track - possibly 300 metres

The one I am talking about is at the Community College. Certainly not tartan. Sort of compacted gravel. Think it might be 400m or close to it anyway.
    Is cinder just gravel?

I heard if you nicely ask some of the guys who work in the park to let you in they will.

Wonder who will use the new track in Galway, glad to see it. There are so many new runners, fit for life and solo doing couch to 5km, it would be great to see them use this new facility.

I believe these two were relaid this year. Anyone run on them since, have any feedback?

Haven't run in CIT since April 2013, but it was fine then.

I ran on the Mardyke track a few weeks ago though, it's in great shape.
