Winter / Hamper League Format and Costs!

Winter / Hamper league started in our club last weekend - would be interesting to hear how these competitions are run in different clubs.

Format: Separate leagues for Saturday and Sunday over 13 holes with best stableford scores from 4 out of 6 competitions to count between starting date and just before Christmas. Going on previous years there were about four equally sized hamper prizes for the first 4 places in each league (made up by our competition secretary as opposed to being bought in).

Cost: League Entry fee €5 in addition to usual weekend comp fee of €5. This is the first year we have had a separate league entry fee - a sign of more cost conscious economic times, I guess, but still not bad value for money!

I've heard it said that other clubs charge a league entry fee of €20 - €25 in addition to the usual competition fees.

    Thoughts, guys?

We have teams of 5; best 3 scores over each weekend to count for overall team score. League runs over 10 weeks, the best 8 weeks couting to your final team score.

Top 8 play off against each other using same format over next 2 weeks, the 2 reamining teams play each other in a matchplay final.

One off entry fee of €10 in addition to weekly comp fee.

Works really well, mad to see the timesheet full in such bad weather, demand drops off a little as some teams fall out of contention.

Teams of four drawn out of the list of entries, played over 10 holes each week, you can play anytime/as many times during the week/weekend so you can post your best 10 hole score out of for example 3 cards, Then the top 12 teams play off on the final day. Disadvantages- If you only have 3 players playing from your team that week it really affects your score so tough and your team could win the league and come no where in the playoff final and get diddley squat. Advantages, competive golf throughout the winter on any suitable day weatherwise and being able have multiply attempts to score for your team each week.

Qualifier played a couple of weeks ago with a €10 entry fee. 16 Teams of 5 players qualify and are drawn from different categories handicaps to balance out. Each team designated a low handicap captain who submits the order of his team (like Sunday singles ryder cup) minimum of two days before the matches are to be played. Matches are then singles matchplay with full handicap, no halved matches. Team with 3 wins or more progress to the next round. Run over 4 weekends in November. First round played last Sunday
