Do you touch up your make up on a night out?

I was out over the weekend & one of the girls only had a babysitter for a couple of hours so she had only planned on staying out for a bit and not having a drink. About an hour in, her brother phoned to say that he wasn't going out so he would babysit for the night and she could stay out. She was already dressed up with a full face of make up but said no to her brother because she hadn't got her make up bag with her! After a bit of convincing she decided to stay out but she was going to drive home to get her make up which would have taken her at least 45 min. She was in such a tizzy about not being able to touch up her face I was really surprised! In the end we popped back to my place which was only 5 min away and she raided my make up...

So I was just wondering if many of you go to the bother of bringing you make up bag with you and touching your make up during a night out?

I would only ever bring a lip gloss with me & at that I would forget to touch it up!

I have a small make-up bag that's always in my handbag, but I generally only ever touch up my powder (I have the oiliest skin ever) and lip gloss.

No way in hell would I be dragging my full make-up bag around with me on a night out.

I would throw a small make up bag in my bag the odd time if I know I'm not going home but that would be to fix myself the next morning... I wouldn't go near it throughout the night! I would probably end out looking like a clown if I did :D

I honestly thought she was messing at first but she was full on panicked over the idea of not having it with her...

I like to top up my eyeliner when I'm half cut... so no, I don't bring make up with me for touch ups anymore!

Full make up before going out. Bring lipstick and powder for a quick touch up once, maybe twice during the night. Certainly wouldn't be a deciding factor as to whether I stay out or not!

I usually bring powder & whatever lip product I'm wearing, then forget to use them at all during the night. :D

I bring a mac MSFN for touch ups and a cream blush, plus lipstick/lipgloss, i wouldnt go out-out without makeup but i would def be happy to go out without my touch up makeup

jesus no, as long as i'm a ride when i'm walking out the front door i couldnt give a sh!te what sort of a mess i am with drink in me! i'd probably lose it anyway and fcuk that, its bloody expensive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,039 ✭✭✭✭retro:electro

No way, have brought stuff with me before but ended up either losing it or lending it to someone and never seeing it again or getting concealer back all smudged with a big finger hole in the middle which is probably worse than losing it! Usually bring just lipstick but even end up making a hames of that when I'm half cut so tend to try and leave myself alone

Have you ever seen her without make up on? I have a friend like this and I've never seen what she looks like without make up!

She has no head. Only a tennis ball sized appendage on her shoulders upon which years and years of makeup have been layered. Archeologists of the future will age her remains by slicing through this accumulation and counting the rings.

There's a lot of this about. Usually found tottering over heels the size of which could only have been worn gracefully by three women in the entirety of human history. And in those cases only because a genetic anomaly resulted in their being born with their knees facing rearwards.

    :pac:

Yeah, plenty of times over the years... That's why I was so surprised, I never realised she was that bad when going out. Sure when I went to pick her up the next morning so she could get her car she still had the previous night make up sliding off her face :pac:

I do carry some make up around with me but I very rarely top up my make up or do anything after the first application. I really only started carrying make up when I was flying back and forth to see my boyfriend. I'd take my make up off on the flight and have intentions of making myself look gorgeous for him at the end. That happened once I think! But I still have a concealer, a powder, a BB cream (sample size), an eyebrow pencil, an eyeliner, a mini mascara and a blusher in my bag.

Maybe as she was not out properly for a while she may have been feeling anxious, her makeup bag might just have been a bit if a crutch for her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 991 ✭✭✭on_my_oe

I would've been like that myself, I had awful red cheeks until I did a course of lasers - I wouldn't even go out for a pint of milk without makeup. It could be my mothers influence, if she had to go out sans makeup she would put on lipstick and big eighties style sunglasses.

Nope! I apply my makeup once every day, that's it! If I am working all day and going out after I *might* put some powder on, but that's it. Sometimes I see girls in the bathrooms on nights out constantly reapplying their make-up and I just think..what's the point. It's dark so no one can see you anyway :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭StripedBoxers

I never do, the only thing I reapply is gloss/balm, whichever of them I'm wearing. Never anything else.

A friend of mine recently had her bag stolen on a night out and all her make up was taken from it when she got it back.

Her Estee Lauder limited edition blusher palette, Naked 2 palette, mascara etc. A good €100 worth of stuff all gone.

So now I wouldn't even consider bringing any good or expensive make up with me.

When I was in college last year there was several girls who would take off their make up at the 10am break and reapply because it was stale looking after being applied at 7am, then at lunch time, the same story, it was stale after being applied at 10am, so another application, and again before we went home.

So about six times a day they would reapply a full face of make up, moisturiser, primer, foundation, powder, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, sometimes false lashes, sometimes lipliner and lipstick, other times just lipstick/gloss etc.

They had it all done within 20 mins which I was surprised at because I thought it would take longer but I suppose when you do it so often you are used to doing it quickly.

I know of one girl who got up before her bf each morning and applied a face of make up just so he wouldn't see her without it. Wonder if he ever told he that he could see her face without make up when she was asleep. I couldn't (and still can't) understand it.

The only time I ever reapplied make up was when I was bridesmaid a few years ago, but it was 30+ degree and I have oily skin so didn't want a big shiny face in the photos.

I think we know at least one person in common! A girl I used to live with did the getting up before her boyfriend thing and was also the only person I'd ever met who brought her massive make-up bag into college to redo the lot a couple of times a day. She used to go in for the full works as well- loads of eyeshadow and liner then a dark pink lip liner and lipstick too, which looked ridiculous for a college day when she was in jeans and trainers.

I think the poor girl had some serious body issues, the irony being people were often looking at her funny BECAUSE of how done up she was, not in spite of it:(

I only touch up translucent powder as my skin gets very shiny, frequent tinted lip balm as I bite it all off when I'm thinking, and a bit of extra eyeliner pencil at breaks because it never stays on me no matter what I use.

Sometimes I bring an eyeshadow with me but I never top it up so there's not much point!

I get awful black under eyes. So concealer, powder and lipstick for my red lip would be all that I would use to touch up

 That must be so harsh on their skin! That's insane. What kind of make up goes stale after 3 hours?!

I would think that the heavier its applied the more patchy it will become as the day goes on. I'd rather not deal with any at all than have to be reapplying like that tbh

I use Mac Paint Pot in Painterly as a base for eyeshadow, I dab it in really close to the lashes and a tiny bit under eye and I find now (been using it a couple weeks) my eyeshadow and eyeliner stay put all day and until I remove them at night (I use Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencils). Might be worth a try. Urban Decay Primer Potion is almost as good too and makes the shadow and liner last much longer.

I don't usually, but I would touch up my eyeliner if I think of it. Maybe my eyeshadow if it's one that's being a bastard and runs up into the crease. Although usually I just use my finger and smooth it out. So max in my bag is eyeliner pencil, a little eyeshadow thing, and maybe a brush. I don't really wear lipstick, but I might have some with me if I feel like it.

I certainly wouldn't refuse to go out if I didn't have my makeup with me!! I don't wear makeup during the day, so have gone out in the past with absolutely none on me at all if it's a spur of the moment night out.

Surely thats a massive amount of makeup for anyone to wear on a daily basis, even if they just put it on once? At the very least it can't be good for skin to be smothered like that, skin needs air.

I'm feeling very puritan with my mascara and lipgloss after reading how much some people wear. I wouldn't wear a fraction of that even on a night out, and I can't help thinking that someone who panics if they don't have a full kit of works available to them on a night out has big self image or security issues. And how on earth does a woman avoid letting her boyfriend seeing her barefaced? Life is exhausting enough without the logistics nightmare that would be! :)

I never need to touch up my foundation but I like to reapply my lipstick (if I remember) or eyeliner.
ALWAYS carry perfume with me and give myself spritzes through the evening.

I usually just bring out powder and whichever lipstick I'm wearing. I couldn't be bothered with anything else, and odds are I'll forget about it anyway. If I'm happy to spend twenty minutes in the bathroom touching up my whole face, then I'm probably not having a good night!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭Rosie Rant

I sometimes bring powder for a touch up, if I know there are going to be a lot of photographs to pose for. Mostly I just take the shine off my makeup with blotting papers. I always bring lipgloss with me in case I want to touch it up but it gets a bit pointless doing it after a while.

Powder and lipstick, nothing else. It actually annoys me going into the loo and you can't wash your hands because some idiot has about fifty products up on the counter and is directing lobs of blusher powder all over your nice clean clothes.

Just what ever lip product I'm wearing. Usually wear Estée Lauder double wear if out for the night, that stuff doesn't budge once it's on so no need to bring powder etc.

I only ever bring makeup with me for big day long events, ie weddings. Anything else can feck right off. I make sure I look decent leaving the house and that's that. Life's too short

I'll bring out powder and lipstick, like most it seems! I'll touch up maybe twice if it's a particularly warm (well, sweaty!) venue. But then again sometimes I'll totally forget!

No, but primers are, or very close to impermeable. That's how they work.

I wouldn't normally bring make up with me, unless I was staying out overnight and wouldn't be home in the morning. It wouldn't enter my mind to touch up my make up, apart, maybe, from lip stick, but even then I generally forget (plus I hate the lipstick marks on my glass!)

I wish more places had mirror bases or at least more mirrors on the walls for this reason. You shouldn't have to queue up to wash your hands!

I'd bring a bit out with me - lip gloss, bronzer, eye liner and maybe a bit of eye shadow. Some fun trying to do your make up when you're half cut!! But that's on a night out on the town, eg going to night club, getting past that stage now.

But even for the pub I would throw in the above except eyeshadow maybe. Would probably just top up the lip gloss and tidy and stray eyeliner.I do wear make up every day though (foundation, concealer, blusher and gloss).

If I had an unexpected night out, I certainly wouldn't waste my time going home for make up - I would just borrow my friend's (as yuck as it sounds)

I might bring my makeup out with me. Not all, but maybe a few items. But it would depend on what I am doing as well.
Night of clubbing/dancing. If I am gunna be a dancing diva I might get a bit sweaty and need to touch up a bit.
The lipstick for the night for sure would be necessary. Other than that, too much too carry and I don't wear enough of it to matter!

Worst of all are the places that have the sink and the mirror actually in the toilet cubicle - cue a massive and increasingly fidgety queue to have a slash while the chicks inside leisurely fix their faces.

if im going out id do full make up before hand and i wear EL double wear for nights out and like someone else said it doesnt move! IO always bring a lip gloss or stick with me as it will wear off and apart from that just some concealer as I sometimes jhave bad dark shadows under my eyes. I normally have really clear skin but at the moment i have spots on my chin from an allergic reaction to a product so I use concealer on that as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 996 ✭✭✭bnagrrl

Depends where I'm going. If it's just out to dinner I'll bring whatever lip product I'm using. If I'm going dancing or somewhere I'll more than likely get a bit sweaty, then I'd bring powder and/or blush, eyeliner and whatever lip product wearing.

I'm not one for touching up make up throughout the night though. I might reapply a bit when I go to the bathroom and even then not every time and it's literally a 2 min job.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭Parchment

I ALWAYS take my powder compact with me to dab shine down and if i am wearing lipstick i will take that but thats about it. I may not even bother bringing the lipstick with me. I am not that pushed about makeup "looks" i just want to look healthy and glowy as opposed to having makeup on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,448 ✭✭✭✭Cupcake_Crisis

I generally bring my make up with me just in case there's se sort of hideous make up ruining accident, but the only thing I tend to touch up is my lipstick if im wearing any, and powder if I get a bit shiny.

The worst thing about touching up your make up is the inevitable 'oh your lipstick, mascara, eyeliner is gorgeous, can I try it??' No. No you can't you germ ridden fiend!!
