Have a guelder rose that needs some thinning cuts to regain its shape (ie grow upwards and outwards)due to a brief spell of leaf spot.Should i do it now as it is approaching winter and am wondering will the coming winter be frosty or snowy?would that kill the plant if pruning as done?is a thinning cut the best cut to do?

You would probably be better to wait until immediately after it has flowered next year. They don't usually need pruning, but you could re-shape it at that stage.
