Baby gone, Rancilio Silvia in?

I have given up on my Gaggia Baby Dose and decided to put it up on Adverts for parts or repair.

    http://www.adverts.ie/small-kitchen-appliances/gaggia-baby-dose/6239207

There's probably very little wrong with it but I just can't face the repair. Someone will pick up a bargain when they fix it cheaply.

Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to pick up a Rancilio Silvia to replace it; unless I can be convinced otherwise for a ~€500 budget.

How have people fared with the RS on here? Reliability is extremely important and I don't want another breakdown on my hands. I have no problem putting in the time to maintain the machine.

I see it for €469 for the v4 at http://www.coffeeitalia.ie/rancilio-silvia-display.html

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,

    ArcticFox

Thanks Gran Hermano - so I shouldn't buy from CI but can you recommend an alternate?

    my experience is different.
I used CI for my Sylvia v3 two years ago and the service was fine.

Silvia is a great machine for the price. I would recommend a PID mod however as the temp surfing is never exact and it will help to create more consistent espresso.
You will want to mod the OPV also!
I also did and insulation mod but it's not essential. OPV + PID should give you great performance for the price.

If you like milk based drinks beware. The boiler can only handle one or the other but not both. You also have to do a steam flush to get a nice consistent flow from it, so You will be waiting a little.

I had mine for a long time and really enjoyed it. It's very close to the Gaggia Classic so possibly consider one of those. Iirc the big difference is Brass vs Aluminium boiler.

Can anyone recommend someone to service them should anything go wrong?

Guys , what about the Crossland CC1 instead of the Silvia? The thing is I have never heard of one in Europe but a lot of americans are raving about it, and it seems to be great value for money.

Sorry thought I already replied. I may have deleted it due to embarrassment. Including delivery looks like I paid €540 for my Silvia. Was very happy with service from ItaliaWorldWide Web Italian Store on Amazon. I certainly did try to find it cheaper but obviously couldn't at the time.
Delivery was quick. Only issue I had was it has an EU plug. Perhaps I could have asked for one with a UK one.

Thanks Zagato; that's a bit more than I expected. In the end though, you've got a great product and I'm sure sure that it's making great coffee.

If anyone else could help with an alternate reliable seller then I'd appreciate it.
    (sub €500 preferably)

I have found an IRISH company, based in the West of Ireland, that sells the Rancilio Silvia V4 for €469 including free shipping in Ireland :D

Has anyone here had any experience with them?

Here is their own company blurb from their website:

Welcome to Home Coffee Machines Ltd in the West of Ireland.

The business is run by Ciaran Maddison, a man who likes good coffee and believes it should be available to all in the comfort of their own home. The coffee machines market has plenty of choice but with most retailers selling both commercial and home machines, the purchase can become very confusing. We aim to remove that confusion by specialising in home machines and supplying you at home with an excellent product and service at the right price.

We represent all key brands and will be happy to give you any advice required in making your choice.

I purchased a Silvia from them a couple of months back without any problem. It was out of stock at the time of order and delivery took a few days longer than expected but communication at all times was excellent.

Initially dubious as there was so little info about them online and I prefer to get a broader opinion of a vendor before a significant purchase. Ciaran seems a decent bloke based on communication before I ordered, the machine itself is absolutely great and I'd use them again without hesitation when I'm back in the market for a new grinder.

That's great news and very reassuring - thank you. I'm going to push the button tonight.

    Edit to say - done!
