Sorry if this has been previously discussed, but with the likes of interstellar & the hobbit due out shortly I was wondering what's the best screen to watch these on & if there is much difference between the screen in the Odeon Point vs the screen in Parnell square?

They're both basically just silly marketing terms. The IMAX in Cineworld is faux-max. They're above average digital projectors, not at all worthy of the premium the cinemas charge.

35mm Interstellar in the Lighthouse is by far the best option in Dublin for that film.

If you really like your 3D films, Cineworld’s IMAX with it’s dual 2k set-up is a good choice, I guess. It should be brighter which is better for 3D. But for 2D films like Interstellar neither are worth it IMO. I’d be especially suspicious of IMAX after the terrible DMR “enhancement" treatment the 35mm sections of TDK received. I don’t know if Nolan saw sense and bypassed it this time.

35mm is the closest to Nolan’s preferred presentation of Interstellar that you are going to find in Ireland, so I’d recommend the Lighthouse as well.

Yeah, same sort of thing. You're paying for a more comfortable seat more than anything there, at least in the one in Rathmines.

All of these cinemas will throw a lot of silly buzz words and hyperbole at you, but really I've found the difference to be pretty negligible and in some cases even detrimental. The price is the decider though - Cineworld's IMAX particular is simply a rip-off. I've been there a few times through preview screenings, and I have yet to be even remotely convinced its worth paying for.

Interesting, thanks for the updates. Have never actually been to the lighthouse, so might give it a try

What's the deal with 35mm version - how is that different to your average screening?

For a proper IMAX experience you have to go to London. Huge screens. Here, it's a normal screen but the sound is louder. Not worth the loading of the ticket price
