Cancelling utilities

Living in a rented house over 5 years in Dublin and the landlord wants to sell. No issues with this and we've been given plenty of notice(4 months).
I recently signed up with a gas/electric company on a 12 month contract and also have about 6 months left on a tv contract.
Is it as simple as ringing the company's involved and letting them know or should I look into sending registered letters etc?
    Thanks

if your moving to a new place you should be able to give final readings and ask for a transfer without terminating any agreements.

It's more of a common courtesy to organise this so that the meters transfer to the Landlord in the interim. This prevents the utilities being disconnected and then reconnected for a fee paid later (not by you). You are of course allowed to simply ring up and terminate your agreement with the utility companies if you wish.
