Brake pad alignment with channel on rim

There is a channel cut into my rims.. Not sure if it's for clearing water in the wet or something else, I'd say it's not even half a mil deep
Anyway they are basic aluminium rims and wondering if my pads should be sitting across this section or above it(there's just enough space above the ridge ie tyre side for the pads)
    Cheers
    Marty.

Sounds like a wear indicator. When it's no longer visible, your rims are toast. I'd say your pads should hit it centrally.

Yep.... Should be central over rim and groove.probally mavic Cpx 22 rims or similar.

    Cheers never thought of that.
They are bontrager rims that came on an entry level trek1.2 I bought a few years back.
