Yosemite Clamshell Mode Waking Issue

    Hi folks,

I use my mac with an external monitor. I usually put the mac in clamshell mode. The problem that I am experiencing is that when the mac goes to sleep and then I try to wake it up with the mouse or keyboard, I am getting issues.

So the monitor wakes up ok and I get the last screen that I was working on, the mouse works and I can move the cursor around, however, thats it, I can't engage with any part of the operating system. The dock won't magnify, I cant click on any apps, I can't click on spot light or any of the menu bar items.

Its like the OS has completely frozen on me. I'm not really sure what to do except hold the power button down for 10 seconds and force a shut down. Obviously this can lead to its own problems.

So I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10, I have 16gb third party (crucial) RAM and a third party SSD (crucial 500gb).

Has anyone else experienced these issues or would anyone have any pointer on how to fix this. Is it a case of wait for a OS upgrade.

    Thanks very much.

It could be caused by any number of issues. You need to narrow it down. Rule out the monitor, keyboard and mouse or any other devices you have connected. Disable any apps that run in the background. Maybe test it with a new user account. If you installed the RAM or SSD recently one of them could be the problem. Run Rember or Memtest to see if the RAM checks out. You could also try checking the logs in Console and see if anything sticks out.
