Hi my wife has a terrible fear of dentists and really needs to get 2 teeth taken out which have broken and just years of fear have put her off getting them done. They are on the upper back left side, she will have to be knocked out to get it done no question about it. We have VHI insurance and i'm just wondering what can we expect to pay and where offers this type of work.

    Thanks for reading,

Vhi and other medical insurers cover the removal of impacted teeth or teeth that are broken down to the point that all that is left are the roots in the gum/bone (ie the visible part of the tooth is mostly gone).
If this sounds like your wife then you can expect to pay a consultation X-ray and maybe a hospital excess for the GA or sedation.
If these teeth are not impacted or are big regular teeth and not roots then it won't be covered by Vhi and it is all on you.
So in that case it's consultation and X-ray fee. The killer is the hospital and anaesthetist fee which brings treatment under GA to the €1500-2000 mark. A wiser use of your money and a safer form of treatment would be to have the treatment under iv sedation out of hospital. This would be more like €500-700....
