Library fines - I'm a fool!! - URGENT

I have 3 short loan books out from JJ that were due at 4pm on Thursday.

Thursday is also the first of the three days (incl. today) that I was called into work to cover someone who was sick. I work 9-7/8 and I live an hour away on the bus from UCD (I don't drive).

During this time, I totally forgot I had the books (nevermind that they were due!) until this evening when I read my emails...

So far I've 35e in fines. It'll keep going up every hour I don't return them. I can get into UCD for 9am tomorrow morning but my friend told me that since there's no librarian on Sundays that it'll keep going up in fines until Monday when the librarian comes in?

    Is this true?

Also, is there any chance of getting a waiver or a reduction in fines cos of the above circumstances? I'll pay them if I have to.

Also this same friend told me that if you have fines over a certain limit then they cut off total access to the library - is he having me on? I can't see evidence for this on the library website.

    Any help much appreciated! :(

Why can't you plop them back in via self-service? Anyway, they won't cut off access, but you can't borrow anything once you're fined over €5.

I want to do that at 9am tomorrow but he told me it won't be taken off my account until the librarian comes in on Monday so I'll be accumulating fines regardless of if I make the journey or not?

    Is he wrong? (Hope so!)

If you return with the self service machine the fines will stop accumulating.

Also I was under the impression that the fines only accumulate during library opening hours? That may not be the case though.

return the books, dont pay the fine and pray for the hyperinflation we have been promised due to quantitative easing
