Green or Red?

    Hi Guys,

    Looking to get a couple of 6TB Drives for my server and I'm wondering if I should go WD green or red, will be storing movies and such an such and set up as a raid 1.

    Just bought a Green 6TB myself. However looking at Western Digital's website for what you describe you intend in using them for I'd say use Red. It's designed and tested for RAID environments (apparently) there's also a 3 year limited warranty over 2 with the Green.

    I reckon red too. Have bought both in the past. They're a smidge faster, designed more with RAID in mind and mainly the warranty. I think they were more power efficient too, iirc, since they're a newer revision than the greens unless they've been updated recently.

    RAID means you really want to go red. They're designed to "give up" on read errors quicker which means they're far less likely to be dropped by the RAID controller.
