I have an annual short hop rail pass for the dart. It is due to expire at the end of January but the workplace are looking for applicants for the next calendar year passes to apply around now. I will be relocating to a different office in February or March (no definitive) date yet but it will be happening. When I do move to the new office I will no longer need the pass as I will be cycling to work and back. How easy would anyone know is it to cancel the pass so you are no longer paying for it from your wages and how much notice would you have to give and also is there a penalty. Ideally I would like to have a rolling on monthly agreement where I could pay for it for February and then cancel if say I was to move to this place in March.

Depends on ur employer...however normal ryle is you can cancel anytime before 8 th month....you will be charged flat monthly rate for number of months you have used...and refunded balance amount....

You can calculate monthly rate by dividing total fare by 10 months as 2 months are free....

    Hope this helps ;) !!

Wow always assumed once it was bought, there were no refunds. Show what I know.

So to extend on this, because you get the last 2 months free, there may appear to be a penalty on cancellation, as you would have been paying 1/12th of the cost per month, but you will need to bring your paid balance up to x/10 of the cost for x months of the pass used. Very minor issue, but worth bearing in mind in case you get a shock post cancellation. Also, would be worth checking out with your employer, as mine was unaware of option to cancel at one point, and we now have to sign a form that we are committing for the year internally.

    Cancelling Annual Tickets

    Iarnród Éireann/Dublin Bus

    * Please note that Annual products are based on a 10 month rate, with two months free and this discount is withdrawn if the ticket is cancelled so the refund/credit is based on the regular monthly rate by the number of months used.
    * Your Annual ticket/card must be returned to Iarnród Éireann/Dublin Bus from your employer by Registered Post or Courier no later that 5th of the month.
    * If you cancel your DART/Commuter Rail, Dublin Bus Only, Short Hop Rail & Dublin Bus, Rail & Luas or Dublin Bus & Luas ticket/card before ten months have expired then you may be due a refund on your ticket.
    * If you cancel your Point-Point Intercity ticket before ten months have expired then you may be due a refund.
    * Annual Tickets purchased through the taxsaver Commuter Scheme normally have employer conditions that can vary from company to company. It is advisable to seek clarification with your company administrator before seeking a refund.
    * Refunds on Annual Tickets will be calculated as follows: The cost of the appropriate Monthly Ticket multiplied by the number of months used is deducted from the amount paid for the Annual Ticket. There is no administration fee involved.

That is to stop the employee stiffing the employer if the employer pays up front, but bills the employee monthly.

    isn't there a monthly option?

Oh, if replacing on annual with another annual (doesn't apply in this case), haggle with them ans see if they will waive the cancellation charge. You will likely have to sign up for another 12 months though.

Yes, monthly tickets are available, but annual tickets are only 10 (not 12) times the cost of a monthly. Depending on how you take leave, etc. monthly or annual may suit you.

Some employers don't offer monthlies for ease of admin - mine is one.
