Hi guys, need a little help.

I have my heart set on a dogue de bourdoux for the past 8 years. I've researched and researched and I finally feel ready (and am allowed!) to get one. There doesn't seem to be many breeders in ireland and I am worried from the ads on donedeal being puppy farms. I have got the name of a recommended breeder in Scotland. I am wondering would it be difficult to bring a puppy back into Ireland from Scotland?

Has anyone here ever owned one? Have you any tips? Appreciate any help or advice, thanks.

This is NOT a spelling and grammar forum.
But seeing as you brought it up, it's Dogue de Bordeaux.
Do not reply to this post on thread.

Definetly go with a reputable breeder who health tests. Somebody in our park had one he collapsed last year on a hot day and they were able to revive him but he was never the same again and ended up being PTS :( He was a lovely dog - so gentle and didn't have a clue that he was huge lol!

I've met several over the years. All seem like big softies and as you said TK not aware of how some people may see as intimidating. I like them as they remind me of a muscular and bigger boxer type without the hyperactivity you can see in boxers. They also have a benefit compared to other mastiffs as not on restricted list. OP you better be able to tolerate drool and slopper if considering a DdB!

Hi, I have one of these big softies, or babies as I like to call them. Be prepared to put in a lot of ground work to get a well behaved balanced dog(like all dogs really), the last thing you need is a 60kg badly behaved dog running around not listening to you. They need loads of socialisation and training. Our guy got tonnes of socialisation and still has an issue with male dogs(he got attacked as a teenager and I think it put him set him
back) but I know loads of ddb that are great once the are properly socialised from a young age. They don't like to be on there own either again like a lot of dogs, but if there not happy they can do a lot of damage so it's all about slowly slowly and build up the time on his own so they don't freak out, worth the time and effort in the end.
Oh and I know a lot if people do to agree with this but there is only one boss in our house (my partner) and I've tried everything under the sun to bring myself up in the ranks or not even have a ranking but at the end of the day if my ddb listens to anyone it's my partner, my say goes out the window when he has his mind set on something. Just to add I'm the one who walks him, feeds him and gives him all the affection but once my partner is in the house I'm ignored.
Sorry I'm waffling now, pm if you want any other details, we got our guy from a breeder in Wexford and completely happy with them. Best of luck, they'll change your life for the better :)
