Was considering train annual tax saver ticket as its now time to purchase. I see criticism of the pricing and general service. Just wondering do those who've taken up the annual train tax saver feel it works outs well for them and is worthwhile investing in ?

It all depends upon your own circumstances.

The annual Rail Only Short Hop ticket costs €1,420. Note that this includes DART as well.

Go to www.taxsaver.ie to see what the effective cost would be, and how much tax, PRSI and USC you would save.

Then compare that with what you would be paying normally.

Weekly train tickets from Balbriggan to the City will cost €43.60 from December 1st, or using the LEAP epurse the cost will be capped at €35.50 per week for rail only use.

I suspect that it will be substantially cheaper!
