I've been reading through your log, fair play to ya!
I'm in 5th year myself and hoping to study medicine (I'm planning on having all options on my CAO and if I don't get into any I repeat)
I'm just wondering how exactly are you studying? I know what may work for some won't work for others but it can't hurt to try.
I know people who are getting up at 6 every morning to do study as they want to have the evening free (bar homework) any thoughts on it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 589 ✭✭✭coolerboy

Thanks, right now I am doing approx 2hrs of study on weekends and 1.30 hrs on weekdays. If you're doing over 2hrs or so most of your study will be procrastinating as I did earlier on in the year!

I think the most effective way to study is to do so in short bursts of 30 mins and 5 mins break in between each subject. You should really be studying 2 or 3 subjects max in that 2hrs. I study using past papers, I find it generally maximises you're output in study than say making tonnes of notes without thinking. I also watch videos for areas I find particularly difficult for example in maths I use Khan's Academy. It generally depends on what type of learner you are and finding what suits you best, for example I am a visual learner so I find videos really helpful.

I normally do 1 hr before homework and 1 hr after homework. It's easier than studying for 2hrs straight as I generally lose concentration easily. As I said before finding whats best for you is what matters the most! ;)

Good luck with you're medicine aspires! :)

Well long time no see ! :D

Got a lot done since then I finshed my irish and ag science notes and almost done physics and chemistry. The problem is how do you study for english?? I did out the character traits and possible themes from king lear but learning them is the challenge!

Started studying for the summer exams yesterday , well to say the least I have a lot of stuff to cover. We're getting an applied maths one too (Thats 4 questions worth of revision ) :(

    Anyways these are my aims:

Maths : I feel i can pull of an A maybe an A2....

English : I'm really struggling with this subject , not going to use it for points so... C1

Irish : I'm finding it quite manageable soo far , my teacher says I can get an A in the leaving... well she's clearly wrong ! Maybe a B2?

French : Got 92 in the oral so.. an A.

Chemistry : An A1 at least.

Physics : I'm not really getting the basic concepts behind it all , thanks to my s****y teacher. Maybe a B1?

Ag Science : Using this for points so an A1 minimum!

App Maths : Well this bi**h , any type of B would do grand... B1?

    Total : 575 :D !
