The O/H and myself are thinking of going next year, starting in Buenos Aires. What to do next is the question. WE would like to see Montevideo Uruguay and Santiago Chile as we're out there. Probably will never be in that part of the world again.Nothing set in stone apart from wanting to start in BA, any one any suggestions, we are talking about sept, about 10 days on the ground with two more for flights, so our time is limited.
    Thanks in advance.

Just saw that this might in the wrong forum. Mods feel free to move if it is.

Are you flying in and out of BA?

If I only had 10 days I'd fly into BA and then travel up to Brazil taking in Igazu and fly out of Rio. You could also fly into BA and out of Santiago and make your way between the 2 in your ten days. Mendoza is lovely for a stop off.

You can do Montevideo by taking the ferry from BA, staying overnight and coming back the next day. To be honest, it was one of the least interesting places I saw in South America. There's a nice museum but unless you're ticking countries off a list I'm not sure what the attraction is.

If you're flying in and out of BA then you're more limited. It's a fantastic city with plenty to give you occupied for 4 days or so.

Give us an idea of your interests and it'll be easier for people to make suggestions.

Well that was the plan, we were going to fly with B/A(airline) they only fly to B/A(city). Montevideo was for the history side of things (battle of the River Plate-Graf Spee), if we could knock that out quickly it would free us up a bit, don't fancy Brazil, history and culture would be our main interests as well as the food and drink(wine) of the region. Don't know if we can get a flight back to LHR from Santiago so it looks like B/A will be our departure place.

Well if you like wine then Mendoza is definitely worth it. I'd pair a few days there with a trip to Montevideo and you could take in the small historic town of Colonia while you're there. I think you can get the ferry to Montevideo and then bus it to Colonia and get a ferry back from there to BA to prevent back tracking.
