Going out with classmates tonite, first time?

Very minor problem, but like a bit of quick advice anyway. But there is a party tonight, and I am heading out with a few classmates, and I say classmates because overall, I spoke to them now and again in class, but never really made any deeper connections like friendship or anything like that. But one of them invited me along, so of course I agreed since I am lacking a college social life anyway.
But a lot of people I know seem to be bringing along friends from school or basically anyone they have known longer, and I didn't really have anyway from my past to invite.
So that why I feel really anxious and nervous about going, because I don't want to come across as a gob****e or clingy if they feel I shouldn't be tagging with them the whole night.

How do you try and mingle with other classmates on nights out without trying to be annoying or intruding?
Coz that's what im afraid of, since I am the fairly quiet person in class with a friend or roommate to invite along, and also as you already guessed, find it hard to make friends to begin with.
I surely cannot be the only college person who kinda had to tag along with classmates, rather than proper friends or roomates.

Is there anyone you have had a chat with before that seems approachable?
I'd start with them and if you run out of conversation you can go to the bar/toilet and then when you get back you might have a new story to share or else move to a different group/person.
Also, who invited you because they will welcome you even if they've invited everyone! If they're an organiser type person they might also be able to introduce you to other people there because they probably know lots of people.

Maybe I've misunderstood. Is it a small group going out who are then inviting lots of other people or are loads of people from your course going?

But of both, classmates from my course are going, and I am going with another classmate and her roomates. Its all sounds good, but its just that was what I was thinking whether I should stay around with them or mingle, but Im afraid ill look weird and a loner trying to mingle around with people.

I wouldn't worry, if it's a big college party in my experience people will float around and talk and certainly nobody will take any notice of who does what. Just relax and try to enjoy it.

Don't give it too much thought.
Go. Relax and anytime you get a chance chat and laugh.

    Have a good time.

They're most likely bringing along these friends because they feel the same anxiety about it you are, so don't worry about them. In fact, the friends that are brought along will be in a similar boat, because they don't know anyone in the class besides their friends (presumably), so unless they're glued to their friends' sides all night you'll be able to talk with other people who don't know anyone else there that well.

Remember, even if you're bricking it with anxiety no one else can really tell if you're walking around chatting with a bunch of different people. Just don't drink too much, eh?

Have a few drinks to help you relax, do not under any circumstances get drunk and do something you will regret later.

DoYouEvenLift - asking the OP for updates on their situation is against the forum charter. For the final time, please read the charter and familiarise yourself with it, as next breach brings you a ban from PI.
