Oh well excuse me then, perhaps if one gave ones young fellas age, one might be in a better position to facilitate one with the relevant required information/advice.

if your attempt at english accent grammar in your reply is a dig at my english heritage then shame on you and it isn't a great way to welcome a new poster onto the site.

My son is just turned 18 so he will be overage for the boys tournaments.

    Hi,
    Welcome.
The 4 major events are the North, South, East and West.
The West starts the year and is played in Rosses Point around Easter time. Actually the 4 of them are played on Links courses so getting a lot of practice on them maybe the best place to start.
Has he joined a club here. There will be usually be someone in the club who will be playing and guys tend to travel together to save costs.
If you are based in Dublin the Links in Portmarnock have a Pro-am every week a good place to play with low amatures and some Pros over the coming months.

He intends to play next year while still under his England club, in the hope he will be still spotted by the England selectors if he does well, and also maybe a club in Dublin may offer him membership to represent them? I've heard this is quite common?

Nope not a dig at your heritage, as frankly most things British are exemplary, including this great game that we all enjoy, it was more a dig at the snappy reply stating your OP hadn't been read correctly, when clearly your OP was lacking in important basic information.
But anyway best of luck to you and your son and all the best in yer future endeavours, I hope your short fuse doesn't hold him back too much.

North, South, East and West, Irish Close, Irish Open and the bigger scratch cups mainly Mulingar.

If he is still boys next year and off the handicap he is he will also have the same Championships in boys and also youths so there is a lot to pick from.

Certainly wouldn't miss the West or the East or any of the Irish Close or Open in the 3 categories including boys and youths.

His post was pretty clear. You've just added another post to insult him further.

Just make sure he can do this, the GUI here are trying to bring in a 3 rounds at your home club rule here. I presume that most of the majors here are open to non GUI members but not sure.

You are right mike and would mean the Close would be out to him under his English Club.

Point taken but it might be more in your line to openly condemn that posters behaviour and attitude as opposed to slapping me on the wrists Greebo
