Hi, just wondering if anyone can give us advice on our situation. I was recently in a road traffic accident and I am now at home in a wheelchair with 2 broken legs. I also how a 3 year old son who needs looking after. My partner has a full time job but is having to spend most of his time at home now to take care of me and my son.
Because he is in full-time employment and I am registered as self-employed, working from home, we do not seem to be entitled to much from Social Welfare. But my partner really needs to be able to get back to work otherwise his wages could be seriously reduced. Is there any other way to get some kind of home help for a few hours a day that won't cost us the earth? Are we entitled to any help?

I think then the only option is to advertise locally for help.or contact local hse they might have special rates for self employed

As you've said you have a 3 year old then it'd safe to assume that your far too young to get a HSE home help.
There's nothing you are entitled to. Is there no family or close friend could come and give you a hand? Thats the usual thing in these situations.

Have you checked what medical expenses you get/can claim for from your insurance compnay (or other party's insurance company)?

Is there a minimum age you must be to qualify for home care? Just today I heard of a cancer patient in her 60s unable to get help at home because she is too young even though due to illness needs support to be at home rather than in hospital.
