    Hi Folks,
A mate and I are going to Peru in December and want to do the 4 day 3 night Inca Trail trek. Is it possible to buy the Inca Trail tickets online from the government and then just find a company to do the trek with when we get there? It also gives a few options on the site, which i'm confused about:

    Machupicchu - Museo

    Machupicchu + Huaynapicchu 1G 7- 8am

    Machupicchu + Huaynapicchu 2G 10- 11am

    Machupicchu + Montana 7 - 11am

Thanks a mil for your help :-)

if its the 'official' inca trail trip you need to book months in advance, it usually sells out quite quick... there are other ones that you can do though...
We booked ours directly with a company over there almost 7 months in advance

I think you have to book through a trekking company who handle all tickets. The govt don't sell the tickets directly to people.

December is peak time. I would think it unlikely that you will get tickets at this last stage unless they're cancellations. Usually people book 6 months in advance.

What website are you quoting from? Have a look at the big travel sites - Gap Adventures etc

There are other hiking trips to other Inca sites which are as good. I did a train trip to MP, stopping in Ollanytambo for a night along the way and exploring the ruins there on my own. Got the bus back to Cusco with the locals, had 2 hens on my lap for the whole journey!

I booked my inca trail with g adventures. They only give out 500 permits a day and that includes porters and guides. I will advise that you get ringing/emailing people ASAP to see if you could get on a trek. It was a great trek and worth every penny. I wouldn't leave it till you arrived as I can't imagine you would get a trekking visa

    Enjoy x

We did our Inca trail with G Adventures, we booked 4 months in advance of the trip. You must make sure you have the correct passport number when booking as they check it on the trek. You can book when you get to Cuzco but you wont be doing the official trek and you have not guarantee that you will get a worthwhile experience. I highly recommend G Adventures !!
The options you give above look like day trips but not the Inca Trail

Check this...there are still permits available for a lot of Dec
