Quick Wordpress Domain Question

I've just setup a new blog and I've initially chosen the free option with .wordpress.com in my url. Is it possible to just upgrade my url to take .wordpress.com out of the address without having to subscribe to the premium plan for €80? I can't find the option.

I vaguely remember being able to just upgrade the free Wordpress domain in Wordpress itself for something like €15 a few years ago. Does this option still exist? Failing that, should I register the domain I want separately through GoDaddy and then map it to my blog?

Your WordPress.com blog comes with a free address, like example.wordpress.com. You can get rid of the .wordpress.com part and use a custom domain name instead, like example.com. Adding a domain is a paid upgrade:

Registering a domain through WordPress.com starts at $18.00 per domain, per year (see below for a detailed price list)
Domain owners are required to share their contact information. The $8.00 Private Registration upgrade will protect your identity and hide your contact information.
Adding a domain you already own costs $13.00 per domain, per year.

    Log into your wordpress.com blog
    Click on "Dashboard"
    Click "Store"
    Click "My Domains"

Cheers for the replies. The Studio Press theme I have purchased needs to be installed through Wordpress.org so I'm in the process of setting that up. Quick question....<snip>

No hosting discussion allowed. We've had it in the past and it didn't go well. Just chose one you think will work.
