I'm a complete noob when it comes to PayPal, so would appreciate some help.

I've sold a watch on Donedeal and the buyer is requesting the transaction be made via PayPal. He has lodged the money with PayPal and now I have to ship the watch to get payment. This is where it gets confusing for me. I got an email from PayPal asking me to mail a shipment label number to customer services and then the money will be credited to my account. I have no idea what this is.

Is there anyone very familiar with PayPal and their processes that can offer advice? All help appreciated.

would this chap perhaps be in a foreign country? and its a present for his cousin/brother/nephew/uncle? This all sounds well dodgy. If you log into your paypal account you should see the same message there. if you dont the message is a fake? Are you shipping to his confirmed paypal address?

He's in Italy, and it was a present for his son. The email address he uses is not the name that he is shipping the watch to. Its an Irish email address, but he is definitely not Irish. I have no mail in my PayPal account from him, but he was able to reply to me from his personal address telling me he received the money request. The 2 mails I've received from PayPal look genuine, they include transaction IDs, although the English in them isn't perfect, something which struck me when I first read them. You think its fake?

    Absolutely fake.

    A couple of things.

You only ship to the confirmed name and address of the recipient.
If they mention that its a gift then run away
Paypal emails always appear in your paypal account. if they dont they're fake.
Paypal are a multi billion dollar company. they know how to use spellcheck.
    Never ship to italy.
    Never ship outside europe
Never ship what you cant afford to lose

I'm disappointed i didnt mention son in my first reply. I mentioned every other close male relative.

Thanks for the heads up Beano. I wasnt comfortable from the get-go, it all seemed a little dodgy. I'll delete the mails and move on!

....and the money will always show up in your paypal a/c, rather than some official-looking email telling you it's fine to send the item.
