    Hi all,

    Was just looking to get some feedback from people on how much I would expect to pay for a new Flywheel/clutch and camshaft on an Audi A3 2005 1.9TDI?

    I was driving at speed few weeks back and black smoke started to come out of the exhaust - car lost power eventually coming to a stop. Car was towed to a garage to be told the turbo had gone - I was then told when putting everything back together the clutch/flywheel/camshaft needed to be sorted asap.

    Would really appreciate some guidance here folks

    Thanks

    M

    There is a regular poster around here called George Dalton. He specialises in VAG cars and well recommended around these parts. Drop him a PM for a price on the parts and labour.

    I fail to see how you would need the camshaft replaced.
    I've done tones of these jobs and these clutch on this engine and I don't see why the camshaft needs it are u sure he didn't say clutch flywheel and crankshaft sensor something isn't right could u confirm and I'd be able to give u a food estimate but fir the clutch and flywheel parts ur looking around 350 to 400 and then the the labour for anyone thst knows that engine prob about 200 for fitting but then u need to find out what they mean by camshaft because if it needs that it will also need a timing belt so u really need to rING and ask what exactly it needs

    I don't think anybody was suggesting that the camshaft and clutch and flywheel were part of the same job or in any way related to each other.

    Camshaft and hydraulic lifter wear is a common problem on these engines.

    So it seems to me that the garage who replaced the turbo also noticed two separate issues with the car;

    1. Clutch and flywheel
    2. Camshaft

    Thanks for the replies...

    I was told by the original garage I needed clutch/flywheel and camshaft when the turbo went. I was told the car needed this work done asap and that it would cost me EUR 2000

    Needless to say I got a second opinion from a garage I trust to be told the camshaft was fine. Car being sorted today. Getting the timing belt sorted too.

    It's not right garages taking people for a ride considering the amount of money being quoted
