Immigration figures for Ireland

Working on a project at the moment, could anybody give me a rough estimate of the amount of people who left Ireland as a result of the economy since 2008?

You're looking for emigration figures as opposed to immigration figures.

As there are no outbound border checks in Ireland, and I no one has ever asked me when I leave on a plane, are you emigrating or going on holidays.

How do the CSO come up with these figures ? How do they know who's here and who's not ? Always wanted to know.

That's why they're called Estimates.


The CSO won't know for sure until the Census.

The 2011 census showed that the previous 5 years Pop and Migration Estimates were out by 100,000 cumulative.
