Water damaged road on hill

    Hello.

I live on a small private road with a few other houses. There is a small hill about 15m at the start of the road. Over the last few months, a bit of a canyon has developed just off centre where in water is flowing.
What could I do to sort this? I know it could be a big job, but any more of a short term solution aka, cheap?
    Thanks

Fill hole with hardcore, machine compacted and add tarmac, machine compacted.

If it's public access road, then wouldn't it be a council problem.

    This too shall pass.

    Perhaps, but ...

Does much heavy traffic go over it, and how much water are we talking about? would it be possible to put a pipe under the road to help the drainage, and/or make a ditch to detour the water to a stream? Victor's suggestion will work, however, the problem may just recur elsewhere.

You can get the council to take over a road. Depends of you want to keep it private or not. I know of cul-de-sacs with one house that were taken over on request. Depends on the local CC.

Several homes use it, that makes it public access doesn't it?

There are about 8 houses on the cul de sac. So, would it be worth a visit to the council if all the residents got together?

In regards to the Tarmac, it's only a compacted gravel road. There is no Tarmac on it already.

It's a private road with all the homes having a right of way on it.

It was actually holding up ok till the start of the summer but one house on the road has more or less been knocked to the ground and been rebuilt, and is nearly finished now, so I suppose it was a lot of heavy traffic from there that did the damage in the last 6 months.
Other than that it's mostly only a few cars, and a small bus from time to time.

Install drainage and repair the road, if the pipe prevents flows of water then make a permanent repair including tarmac.

It might be worth asking the council what to do in your situation. The worst they can do is ignore you.
