Mercedes-Benz W204 C-Class (2008)

Hi everyone,

Long time 'lurker' but first time poster. I'm interested in the above car (C180 Kompressor).

I would be very keen to hear other people's opinion on them

Is there anything I need to be aware of with regards maintenance or faults?

They are not a bad car to be fair, a bit small on the inside and tend to be overshadowed on the desirability front by the 3 Series and A4. I know earlier Kompressor engines suffered from timing chain stretching but not sure about the later ones. The automatic gearbox is way nicer too than the manual. No personal experience of them though.

The W204 sold really well and brought a lot of younger buyers to the Mercedes brand.

However, as a buying and owning proposition, the car looks to be a mixed bag:

The TUV data suggests that early W204 cars had a lot of problems, many of which might have been resolved across the production years, so if your budget enables you to buy only an early W204, you might need to spend a lot of time checking out the service history and reliability of any cars that catch your eye.

just got an 09 one a few weeks ago, very nice drive and good value. But with only 60k miles and full history it need timing chain!
