Just received complex contract from client for freelance project

    Hello,

So, I've found myself doing a bit of freelancing lately and have gotten a contract with a fairly large outfit. It is a software development related project.

They have just provided me with a fairly lengthy contract with a lot of "legalese". This is unlike most other contracts I have seen before that have been just a few pages and pain english.

While my project is not.. This kind of contract is one that would be used in a multi-million dollar deal.

I know I would be silly to just sign it and return. I really need to have a solicitor read this and sit down with me for an hour after.

What is the best to go about doing this? To get advice from a law firm who is familiar with this, how much would this cost? Would they entertain it?

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you. My question is about getting in touch with a lawyer to advise me on this.

I am aware of the rules and forgot to explicitly state I was seeking direct legal advice through this thread.

    Cheers

Tell the client that you have reviewed the documentation and ask them are they sure that you have been sent the correct contract, that is seems disproportionate to the contract. It might be useful to throw in a few other (technical as opposed to legal) queries, so that this doesn't stand out by itself. Overall, it will help convey an impression that you are interested on the project, thorough and take everything into consideration.

If you can do this face to face, it might be easier than phone or email, where it can be difficult to gauge peoples' reactions.
