2006 Toyota Aygo

We're looking at getting a second car mainly to ferry the chizzlers to the creche and short trips around town. We are looking at a 2006 Toyota Aygo for 3400. It has 176,000 km on the clock and I am worried that that is a lot.

It has just passed the NCT (due again in mid-2016) after failing due to emissions. The catalytic converter was replaced and the car passed. We need a small car that is reliable, cheap to run, and won't break down.

Oh wise boardsies, does this car fit the bill?

I wouldn't worry about the mileage if the car has a good service history. They Aygo is a good little car but for that sort of money I'd be looking at something like the Sirion below. It's basically a Yaris underneath but has a more refined 4 cylinder engine from the first generation Yaris and also has more interior space than the Aygo:

Those 3 cylinder aygo engines are not great for high miles, cat probably went due to oil smoke which hasn't been cured.

Consider a citreon C1 or Peugeot 107 with lower miles, same car from same factory just way cheaper than an Aygo. You should get an 06 for early 2k.

They've got the same 3 cylinder Daihatsu derived engine as the Aygo, as had the previous Sirion too

The Sirion shares it's mechanicals with the mk2 yaris. Both are powered by the same 3 cylinder engine, which is a daihatsu unit. The sirion never had that 4 cylinder vvti that's found in the mk1 yaris. Still the sirion is a good bit nicer than an aygo.

The previous sirion had a different engine to the mk2 sirion.

No it's a totally different unit and has a timing belt rather than a chain
