    Hi all,

Basically last night turned off my laptop and it didn't shut down properly. Turned it on this morning and it wont get past a black screen. I turned it off by the power button eventually a couple of times and it boots back up to the black screen with the mouse pointer on it. There doesn't seem to be any option of a safe start or anything. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a mill,
    Marcus Antonius

It's a Toshiba laptop. Waited for the battery to die. The screen goes to the original Toshiba screen then the black one. Any ideas what buttons to press to bring up safe mode options? Also it's Windows 8

    Thanks

Keep tapping F8 on boot-up to get to safe mode option screen.
You can try a few options from there, safe mode, repair start-up etc.

If no joy, take out the battery and hold in power button for 30 secs, then try rebooting.
If you still getting black screen you could try re-seating RAM sticks, it's a common fix, but try the other stuff first.
